My Roller Coaster Ride Through Pregnancy
Apologies, I have been a bit quiet of late...
Things have been a bit busy and I’ve been a bit tired. Life for Dave and I is about to change for the better. We are expecting our first baby in February. IT’S A BOY! We have also just moved house, so I have been in full on nesting mode.
It all started with me thinking I had the flu. I was just feeling a bit poorly, especially in the afternoon. I would be fine in the morning. I thought I had better do the test and sure enough it was positive. It’s funny, you spend your life trying to avoid it, so it was surreal to say the least.
During the first trimester I felt nauseous all of the time. I quickly discovered that if I had food in my tummy it helped things. I have to admit that I probably ate a little too much food but there is time to worry about that later. The hardest thing about this was not telling anyone for the first two months. This felt like it took forever!
At one stage David got angry at me for eating two chocolate bars. That cost him a weekend of the silent treatment.
Not all men understand the cravings and mood swings. We have also had the conversation that it is ok for me to moan about the weight gain but Dave is not allowed to go there. It gets him into trouble…big trouble!
In the second trimester I felt very tired and work was a struggle. Some days I would come home and have a nap before dinner. I take my hat off to all the mums out there who have more than one child! You girls are legends!
Now we are in the third trimester preparing to meet our little boy. I have been washing, sorting and preparing everything within an inch of its life. The bassinet is ready, the clothes are ready, even the bath toys are ready…I still don’t feel ready!
People are so generous! I have had not one, but two baby showers.
The first one was a surprise one at work and the second was one with my friends. We have been given so much stuff! This baby is going to be a little trendy dude!
I am trying to make the most of my time off and relaxing as much as possible before the baby arrives. For Christmas I got a maternity massage, which I am going for tomorrow. I have been catching up with friends and making the most of day naps. This is the first time I have had a break in 16 years.
This heat is ridiculous!! I can’t cope! We are very lucky where we live, we are surrounded in beautiful beaches. So I decided that I was going to go to k-mart and buy togs. The only pair they had in my size was a nice floral rash vest and board shorts. My size was 14 by the way… I have never been a size 14! I got home and put them on for Dave and I look like a garden plant. It is so hot that I don’t care so off we went to the beach. We have a swim…which was heaven. We decide to lie on our towels to dry off. But could I get comfortable? No! This lead to an afternoon of unnecessary tears, I cried about EVERYTHING. Dave didn’t know what to do so offered ice cream which was greatly received!!
We also went and got a paddling pool and put it up in the backyard. This way I can sit in the backyard in my floral togs, with lemonade Popsicles. This helps with the swelling of feet and hands. It is my happy place!!
My biggest fears are sleepless nights! If I could get 10 hours every night I would be humming. There are so many things we don’t know too. I guess you fake it until you make it and find what works best for us. I know the people in my life I can call for advice.
So 2019 is going to be a very exciting year for us and we hope to bring you good news very soon! We hope you have all had a great start to the year and we look forward to introducing some new bags for your party needs.
Hope your holidays were great! Please leave a comment below with your experiences 🙂
